Welcome to the 2007 PGL Season!

Week #1 Results (download the current xls here)

Game of the Week:

George outlasts Babe 45 to 52
The Arabian Masters survived a Tiger stumble and Petersson fading down the stretch to hold on and beat KJ's Fury in a nail biter. The emergence of Zach Johnson secured the win for Geo. The loss was especially tough for newcomer Babe and he was left chewing the gristle with a total score would have beaten every owner this week. Chalk this one up to veteran experience and a superior draft... wait George wasn't at the draft... and he sent in the World Rankings as his draft list... oh well, I guess it is all blind luck. Sorry Babe.

Other Games:
Aaron nips Andy 55 to 58
Hugh edges Jim 63 to 68
Jeff demolishes (Jeff's word, not mine) David 90 to 99
Rick pounds Jeremy 66 to 83

Add/Drop Order for this week (pls get your pick/s in by Tuesday @ noon):
1. David
2. Jeremy
3. Jim
4. Andy
5. Babe
6. Jeff
7. Rick
8. Hugh
9. Aaron
10. Geo

=================

Great draft tonight guys! And a special thanks to Geo, Hugh and Jeremy... your picks were especially entertaining in the later rounds, when other owners were heard saying things like, "who", "i thought he was dead" and "he was good in 1997."

Thanks to Jeff for tracking the draft and sending along the info already. Please post your line-up for The Masters by posting a comment to this post. Include your five starters, the order of your reserves, and a team name.

If you have any questions, please send me an email.

  • Still trying to figure out if any of my guys are playing in the Masters. Who's up for an early-season trade?

By Blogger Jeff Cutler, at 8:41 AM

  • Oh, and for those who were in other countries or otherwise unable to attend last night...we scrapped the Unprotected rule.

By Blogger Jeff Cutler, at 8:42 AM

  • While I was tempted to field a team full of players whose last names all began with C (campbell, curtis, clarke, clark and coceres), that would have only given me four starters. So instead - and please be amazed!! - I had to whittle down my choices as SEVEN of my guys are playing this week. Which leads me to believe that the FIRST kick in the nuts award of 2007 will go to me when Tim Clark or Ben Curtis wins the Masters from my bench.

I think I'm in line for an early season award seeing as I could only come up with one reserve. Any chance of a redraw? I can now understand why I was one of 3 that brought cause for amusement on last night's draw.

Since it worked on the football pool, I will hang my hat on Desert King as my identity.

  • Wow my team has something to be desired that's for sure. It was tough coming up with 5 players that I thought would make the cut...lets give this line up a try in the first week.

  • Is it true that we count the scores of guys who miss the cut? This tournament is insane...my guys who missed the cut are going to beat half the field that made the cut.

  • i am pissed. I would have beat anybody this week, except Arabian Masters. oh well 0-1. Zack "frikin" johnson sucks!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:14 PM

  • For the record, this is how you properly score players that don't make the cut (from the PGL Rules)...

"If one or more of your starters doesn't make the cut they will be assigned a score of three strokes more than the worst score of any player in that game (either yours or your opponents) that plays the entire weekend."

Keeping this in mind, the final score of David/Jeff was 99/90. Even though it didn't change the outcome, it's important to log totals for ALL your players so we have an accurate cummulative score at the end of the season. Cumm score is the tiedbreaker if we have two teams with the same record at the end of the season (for seeding purposes).

  • It looks like Hugh knocked me off this week...

    Ernie Els - 19 (mc)
    Miguel Jiminez - 16
    Nick O'Hern - 19 (mc)
    Stewart Cink - 9
    Stuart Appleby - 5
    TOTAL 68

    Chris DiMarco - 19 (mc)
    Davis Love III - 12
    Mike Weir - 10
    Robert Allenby - 19 (mc)
    Rory Sabbatini - 3
    TOTAL - 63

If haven't done so already, please post the scores for your match. If your opponent posted the scores, it's your responsibility to speak up if you don't agree with their scoring. I take silence as confirmation. ;-)

By Blogger Jim Storer, at 12:15 AM

  • Wowza. Look at the disparity in tiebreaker points already. I demolished David and am still way behind by about 30 strokes in tiebreaker value.

I guess I better go pick up Arjun.

    What's the waiver order?

By Blogger Jeff Cutler, at 9:52 AM

  • Oh, did I say demolished?

    YEAH I DID!!!

By Blogger Jeff Cutler, at 9:53 AM

  • One Day Ahead

I need to make some changes to my team for this week as 90% of my team is not scheduled to play in the verizon tournament. I'm going to be away from my computer for the next few days so I wanted to get this out before I left.

I'm not sure if this is how I'm supposed to do this, but here's what I would like to do.
Add the following players to my team:
    Woody Austin
    Ben Crane
    Jerry Kelly
    Billy Mayfair

Drop the following players from my team:
    Colin Montgomery
    Johan Edfors
    Niclas Fasth
    Tom Bjorn

As a result my starters for this weekend are:
    Yong-Eun Yang
    Woody Austin
    Ben Crane
    Jerry Kelly
    Billy Mayfair
